Description

Book I of Euclid's Elements , in full color.

Euclid in Color pairs Sir Thomas Heath's complete translation, the standard for English-speaking students of Euclid for over a century, with colored diagrams and small colored figures drawn directly into the sentences as you read.

What makes this edition different Heath's translation in full. Nothing shortened, no step skipped. Every diagram contains Heath's original lettering, so the text and the figure always agree. Miniature colored figures sit inside the sentences, alongside the words rather than in place of them. Printed in full color throughout. Who it is for
Classical and liberal arts schools, homeschool co-ops, independent learners, and anyone meeting the Elements for the first time.

Oliver Byrne published a color edition of the Elements in 1847 so a reader could see the geometrical objects in a proof without hunting through a diagram for letters. His mistake was abridging Euclid to make room for the pictures. This edition keeps his color and corrects the mistake. Proclus reports that Euclid once told a king struggling with the Elements that there is no royal road to geometry. This edition does not offer one. What it offers is color, the tool nearly every teacher already uses at the whiteboard, now built into the page.

This volume contains Book I. A companion guide for teachers and independent learners is in preparation.
