Legends of Peru for Kids: Bilingual Peruvian Folktales for Young Readers (English–Spanish Edition)

Ten of Peru's most beloved legends, told side by side in English and Spanish.

From a golden staff that sinks into the earth to mark the birthplace of Cusco, to a hillside high above the sea carved into a promise sailors still steer by — this is Peru as it's been told around the fire for generations.

Inside, your child will meet:
Manco Cápac and Mama Ocllo, the siblings who followed a golden staff to found Cusco
Inkarri, the Inca leader whose story carries a promise of hope across generations
Naylamp, the king who arrived by sea and built a thriving kingdom
Cuniraya, the wandering traveler who wasn't at all what he appeared to be
Pachacámac, the guardian said to watch over the coast from deep beneath the earth
Wiracocha, the maker who set the sun, moon, and stars into the sky
Huascarán and Huandoy, two mountain peaks with a story all their own
Rumi, a boy in the Amazon who learns the bravest thing can be staying still
Iván, a fisherman who meets the river people living beneath the water
The Paracas Candelabra, a giant mark carved into a hillside above the sea

Every story appears in full in both languages, so the whole family can read together, whatever language feels most comfortable. Each chapter closes with a simple moral, and the back of the book includes a bilingual vocabulary section with exercises, so children build real reading confidence in both languages one story at a time.

Perfect for: Peru-heritage families, bilingual classrooms, heritage-minded grandparents, and any child ages 6–9 who loves a good story.

Legends of Peru is Book 6 in the Gentle Folklore Books: Legends of the World series.
